I was recently interviewed for a fitness blog and asked several good questions. Upon answering one of the questions about my interest in triathlon, it caused me to think about my roots with sport. As a kid, I benefitted from growing up in a safe neighborhood with loads of other kids. We would spend our summer evenings playing games like kick-the-can, capture the flag and ghost in the graveyard well beyond dusk. In retrospect, this was the foundation for my running which eventually led to a lengthy soccer career through college and a few years post college in the highly competitive men's beer league. My nieces and nephews probably have no clue about these childhood games filled with running, tactics and lots of laughter. With advances in technology and the birth of the mighty Wii too many young people spend time glued to the idiot box. The only physcial activity they experience is through some type of organized sport program. We can all use a little dose of free-spirited play.

This is off topic for your blog post. I think I heard you interviewed for EWTN last week. I'm not Catholic but am giving it some thought. I enjoyed the interview and thought "Boulder, now that's a place where they are probably used to all kind of strangers wandering through". Since I had occasion to be passing through Boulder on Friday, I stopped in at the noon mass at St Thomas Aquinas church. It was nice, and I didn't feel too scared to be there. I thought maybe the people with the ringing cell phones and the motorcycle couple that kept moving around, might be in trouble before me, the protestant intruder. If I get a chance, I'll come back. (It's 3 hrs away). It was my first time to ever attend mass. In case it was you on the interview, I thought I'd mention it. Sometimes it is nice to know if you have an effect on somebody's actions.
Yes, I was recently a guest on EWTN's Life on the Rock. Fun times with the crew in Alabama. St. Tom's is my parish & I too was at Mass on Friday. Not sure what the deal was with the cell phone and I think the moto couple was there to pick up some emergency food from our food bank. You are spot on about folks who wander thru Boulder :) Hope you are able to visit us again. Keep me posted if you have any questions on the Catholic faith and it's teachings.

Thanks for the offer to answer questions. There are a lot of good books that are answering the theology type issues, so most of my questions right now are procedural. Like, as a non-Catholic should I try to genuflect out of respect when entering, or not.
My husband, who is a devout and good man, hasn't the least interest in converting. He did say he would like to go to Mass with me sometime. I think maybe St Toms would be a good starting place, if I can manufacture a reason to come to Boulder.
I was sitting in the center. You should genuflect towards the taberncale (contains the holy Eucharist) when entering & leaving. In most churches it is behind the alter. Some place it off to the side. Just look for the illuminated red candle holder which stays lit 24/7 alongside the tabernacle. If there is no tabernacle, then you can bow towards the alter.
